KIS Middle School
KIS's middle school curriculum consists of three grades (Grade 7 to Grade 9). The goal of KIS secondary education is to cultivate individuals with inquisitive minds and compassion. The focus of the educational curriculum is on delivering diverse academic knowledge, fostering social maturity and technological advancement, discovering potential through creativity development, and instilling ethical values and ethical behavior. The difficulty, ratio, and subjects of the curriculum are adjusted according to the grade.
The major subjects of the middle school curriculum are as follows:
English Language Arts, Mathematics (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2), Social Studies (Geography, History, Economics), Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Second Foreign Language (Chinese), Third Foreign Language (Korean/Spanish), Computer, Physical Education, Music, Art & Design, and English Language Learning (ELL).
Since English is the primary language of instruction at KIS, all subjects except for the second and third foreign languages are taught in English, using English textbooks. To facilitate active participation in all subjects conducted in English, an ELL program is operated until the 8th grade of middle school (Grade 8), with restricted participation in regular subjects for those students. KIS conducts the MAP Growth Test for all middle school students. The MAP Growth Test is a tool used to assess and track academic achievement in English and Mathematics and is administered in over 1,000 international schools worldwide. The test is conducted twice per semester and serves as foundational data for assessing academic achievement and participation in the ELL program.
In Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science, specific subjects are offered according to grade level. Through weekly elective and club activities such as Badminton, Football, Volleyball, Music Band, Jazz Dance, Broadcasting, Drone, Debate, and Orchestra, students have the opportunity to discover and develop their talents.
Each middle school class has a capacity of 22 students, and counseling rooms are available to assist students. All middle school students participate in student council activities and engage in events and competitions such as Field Trips, Contests, Sports Day, and Talent Shows to broaden their experiences and perspectives. Additionally, opportunities for various volunteer activities are provided to students beyond middle school for social engagement.
